About Our Price-Fixing Investigation For Interior Molded Doors Antitrust Litigation
Edelson Lechtzin LLP is part of a group of law firms litigating whether Masonite Corporation and Jeld-Wen, Inc. conspired to fix the prices for interior molded doors beginning in 2012. These doors – composed of a wood frame surrounding a hollow or solid core and wrapped in door skins that are made of fibrous, high-density mats with a raised panel design – are highly popular throughout North America.
Over an 11-year period leading up to 2012, Jeld-Wen, Inc. and Masonite Corporation took steps to eliminate competition for sales of their interior doors. They acquired various smaller manufacturers of interior doors for this purpose. The companies also stopped supplying door skins to smaller manufacturers of interior doors. The effect of these actions amounted to price fixing.
Eliminating Competition Unfairly May Amount To Price Fixing
The companies in question have been able to raise prices unfairly, without the usual tempering effect of competition. Normal market forces would include key input costs as well as supply and demand. By manipulating the market as they did, these companies eliminated competitors by refusing to sell door skins to small manufacturers of premolded doors.
We are currently interested in speaking with purchasers of interior molded doors who bought them for themselves and not for resale in the District of Columbia, Hawaii, Iowa, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Vermont or West Virginia. We also seek information from contractors who have indirectly purchased these doors in California, New York, Florida, Illinois, North Carolina and Virginia.
